Maleem is a platform for selling online in Egypt. Sellers build stores on it, and buyers order from those stores with cash on delivery. This page explains what personal data we collect when you use Maleem, whether you are a seller, a buyer or just visiting a store, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

It covers maleem.app, the seller dashboard, every store on Maleem (including stores on their own domain), the Maleem checkout and the WhatsApp messages Maleem sends about orders.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run stores and deliver orders: for buyers, that is mainly a phone number, a name and an address.
  • Your details go to the store you order from and to the courier delivering it. We never sell them.
  • Order messages on WhatsApp come from Maleem on the store's behalf. Marketing from Maleem only happens if you tick the box at checkout.
  • You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

1. Who we are, and our two roles

“Maleem”, “we” and “us” mean the team that runs the Maleem platform. You can reach us at hello@maleem.store.

We handle personal data in two different roles:

  • For sellers and their accounts, we decide how the data is used, so we are responsible for it.
  • For buyers of a store, the store (the seller) is responsible for its own customers' data: it decides how to use its customer list and must follow the law when it does. We process that data on the store's behalf to run the store, the checkout and the delivery. We also keep a Maleem buyer profile for you, described below, and for that profile we are responsible.

2. What we collect

If you sell on Maleem

  • Account details: your name, email address or phone number, and your password or Google sign-in.
  • Your store: its name and address on the web, products, prices, photos, pages and settings, and the connections you set up with couriers.
  • What you tell the store builder: your messages, uploaded photos and voice notes.
  • Your store's activity: orders, customers, messages, reviews and returns, so the dashboard can show them to you.

If you buy from a store on Maleem

  • Your phone number, which you confirm with a code sent by SMS at checkout.
  • Your name and delivery address, including the pin you drop on the map, and the governorate it falls in.
  • Your order: what you bought, the price, the delivery fee and any discount code.
  • Your replies on WhatsApp, such as confirming an order.
  • Anything you send a store: a review (and its photo), a return request, or your answers to a form the store has added, such as a custom-order request.
  • Your choice about marketing, if you tick the box to hear from Maleem stores on WhatsApp.

Your Maleem buyer profileis your phone number, your name and up to ten saved addresses. It lets any Maleem store's checkout fill in your details, so you don't type them again. Stores cannot see each other's orders or customers.

If you visit a store

Stores record how they are used, so sellers can see what is working: which pages and products are viewed, what goes into the cart and how far checkout gets. Each visit carries a random visitor ID kept on your device, plus the site that sent you, any campaign tags in the link and the type of device. None of this includes your name or phone number until you place an order.

3. How we use it

  • To run stores, take orders and show sellers their dashboard.
  • To deliver orders: we pass the buyer's name, phone, address and cash amount to the courier.
  • To send WhatsApp messages about an order: asking you to confirm it, delivery updates, a reminder if you left checkout before ordering, and after delivery, a request to review what you bought.
  • To prevent fraud and fake orders: verifying phone numbers, and showing a seller how often a buyer has refused deliveries from their store.
  • To power the AI features sellers ask for, such as building a store, writing product text and creating product photos.
  • To send Maleem offers on WhatsApp, only if you ticked the box at checkout.
  • To keep Maleem secure, fix problems and improve it.

We use your data because we need it to provide the service you asked for, because you consented (marketing), or because we have a legitimate reason, such as stopping fraud, that does not override your rights.

4. WhatsApp messages

Order messages are sent by Maleem, under the Maleem name, on behalf of the store you ordered from, and the message names that store. They are sent through Twilio and WhatsApp.

Messages about your order are part of ordering and you can't opt out of them while an order is open. Offers from Maleem stores are sent only if you opted in. To stop them, email hello@maleem.store. Ordering never depends on that choice.

5. Who we share it with

The store you order from receives your order, name, phone and address, and adds you to its customer list. A store may only use that data to serve you and must follow the law when it does.

Service providers that run parts of Maleem for us. Each gets only what its job needs:

ProviderWhat it does, and what it gets
ConvexOur database and backend. Stores everything described on this page.
VercelHosts the website, the stores and the checkout, and routes requests to our AI providers.
ClerkSeller sign-in: your email or phone, password or Google sign-in, and session cookies.
Twilio and WhatsApp (Meta)Sends order messages on WhatsApp and the SMS codes that verify phone numbers.
BostaDelivers orders when a seller ships with their Bosta account. It gets the buyer's name, phone, address and the cash amount to collect.
AI model providers, including OpenAIPower the store builder, product writing and product photos. They get what you type or upload to those features.
ElevenLabsTurns voice notes you send the store builder into text.
LocationIQTurns a pin dropped on the map at checkout into an address.
OpenFreeMapServes the map tiles at checkout. Your browser loads them directly, so they see your IP address.
Apify and FirecrawlFetch public Instagram posts or store pages, only when a seller asks Maleem to import them.
PexelsSupplies stock photos. No personal data is sent.

Advertising pixels a store adds.A seller can add a Meta or TikTok pixel to their store, which sends store visits and orders to that company for advertising. That is the store's choice and responsibility; Maleem adds no advertising pixels of its own.

When the law requires it, we share data with authorities in response to a valid legal request.

We do not sell personal data, to anyone.

6. Cookies and device storage

  • Sign-in cookies keep sellers signed in to the dashboard.
  • A checkout cookie on the Maleem checkout keeps a buyer signed in after confirming their phone, so the next order skips the code. We store it only in scrambled (hashed) form.
  • Device storagekeeps your cart and the store's random visitor ID between visits.

7. Where your data is processed

Some of our service providers process data outside Egypt, for example in the United States or the European Union. When we use them, we choose providers that protect data to a standard that matches this policy.

8. How long we keep it

We keep seller accounts and stores while the account is open. We keep orders for as long as the seller needs them for their records, and as long as the law requires.

If a store turns a review down, we keep a record of it so the same buyer isn't asked again. When you ask us to delete your data, we delete it unless we must keep part of it by law, and tell you if so.

9. Your rights

Under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (No. 151 of 2020) you can ask us to:

  • tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct data that is wrong or out of date;
  • delete your data;
  • stop using it for a purpose you object to;
  • withdraw a consent you gave, such as to marketing.

Email hello@maleem.storefrom the email or phone number linked to the data, and we will reply within 30 days. If your request is about a store's customer list, we will pass it to that store too. You can also complain to Egypt's Personal Data Protection Center.

10. How we protect it

Data is encrypted between your device and Maleem. Each seller can only reach their own store's data, buyers prove they own a phone number before an order is placed, and checkout sign-in cookies are stored in scrambled form. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

11. Children

You must be 18 or older to open a seller account. Maleem is not meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us data, email hello@maleem.store and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change matters, we tell sellers by email or in the dashboard before it takes effect. The current version is always here, next to the terms of service.
